PERLORO
PERLORO
MONICA DI SARDEGNA
Denominazione di Origine Controllata
The Monica grape represents a rare variety deeply rooted in the island’s winemaking culture. Particularly widespread in the south of Sardinia, it has long found its natural home in the area of Serdiana. Perloro is a tribute to Sardinia’s millennia-old heritage, to the history of the Nuragic peoples and to the mystery of their ancient towers. The label features the silhouette of what is considered the symbol of that era, “Su Nuraxi” of Barumini. With Perloro, the aim is to honor the grandeur of this civilisation by bringing renewed prominence to a native grape variety of remarkable potential.
Grape Varieties: Monica
Production Area: Southern Sardinia
Training System: Spur Cordon
Soil: Clay-limestone soils rich in skeletal content.
Cellar Notes: Following crushing and destemming, the grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation and subsequently malolactic fermentation with selected yeasts at a controlled temperature of 20°C for approximately 30 days. After racking and light clarification, the wine continues its maturation in medium-sized oak casks for around 12 months. The process is completed with at least three months of bottle ageing.
Tasting Notes: Deep ruby-red in color, bright and clear. Intense and persistent on the nose, with concentrated red berry aromas (blackberries, redcurrants, blueberries), alongside vegetal and spicy nuances. Supple on the palate with a pleasant tannic structure, fresh, balanced, and harmonious, with good aromatic persistence on the finish.
