The Pala family’s winemaking journey began in 1950 with Salvatore Pala in the small town Serdiana, in the southwest of Sardegna. In the fall of 2024, Lia Tolaini-Banville became the owner of Pala.
Timeline Story

1950
First harvest at PalaIt was 1950 when Salvatore Pala, son of Battistino made his first wine coming from the grapes of his own vineyards in the Serdiana countryside with the idea to make some good wine to be sold.
The white wine was made from Nuragus grapes while the red was made from Monica and Pascale grapes.

1972
Pala’s red wine Monica grapes became a D.O.C.Pala’s red wine, the one from Monica grapes became a D.O.C. Monica di Cagliari.

1974
Nuragus wine became a D.O.C.Two years later Nuragus wine became a D.O.C. Nuragus di Cagliari.

1995
Salvatore Pala passes the reins of the family business to his sonsSalvatore Pala passes the reins of the family business to his sons Mario, Enrico and Gilberto and the company changes its name from Azienda Agricola Pala Salvatore to Azienda Agricola F.lli Pala… Mario is in charge of the vines and the wine making process, his brothers Enrico and Gilberto are in charge of accounting.

1998
Tanca S’Arai became the family crThe Father’s most favorite vineyard, and wine coming from there, the one called Tanca S’Arai became the family cru with the first vintage ever made using the label S’Arai, the plough in Sardinian language.

1999
First Entemari vintage made and first Cannonau Triente VintageFirst Entemari vintage made and first Cannonau Triente Vintage.
The Family decides to make the definitive leap in quality and to sell its wines at the best restaurants, nationally and internationally appointing Fabio Angius for it.

2000
First Vinitaly fair for PalaFirst Vinitaly fair for Pala... in reflection of that the first export ever made by Pala to Brazil, Germany and the United Kingdom… now Pala wines are available throughout the world… and maybe at your favorite restaurant too.

2001
First vintage for Silenzi rosso and Silenzi biancoFirst vintage for Silenzi rosso and Silenzi bianco

2003
The family bought the first vineyard in the Terralba areaThe family bought the first vineyard, 126 years old, in the Terralba area… a total of 10 acres now with some of the oldest vines of the island. The ungrafted Bovale white sands vineyards from where the grapes of Essentija, the first ever made pure Bovale, come from.

2005
First vintage for StellatoFirst vintage for Stellato. It will become one of the most famous wines from Pala. The first vintage is sold out in 45 days from its release.

2007
The first rose ever made from PalaThe first rose ever made from Pala came after Stellato’s success. Chiaro di Stelle, the rosé that will conquer the Gold Medal at the Rosé du Monde Competition held in Bordeaux, France.

2009
Mario Pala became the only proprietor with his FamilyWith the definitive exit of his brother Enrico, Mario Pala became the only proprietor with his Family. The company changed one more time name to Azienda Agricola Pala di Mario Pala.
Mario’s daughter Elisabetta started working with his father after her studies.

2010
Pala is the winner of the Special Packaging AwardA total label restyling sees the end of the use of the names Crabilis, Triente, Elima, Salnico.. they’ll become simply Vermentino, Nuragus, Monica and Cannonau I Fiori di Pala.
Pala is the winner of the Special Packaging Award at the International Packaging Competition at Vinitaly.

2011
First vintage release for Siray and ThesysFirst vintage release for Siray that will be rebranded later in Siyr, and first vintage for Thesys.
First harvest for the Cannonau Riserva.

2013
Pala is awarded as Emerging Winery of the Year 2014Cannonau Riserva upon its release became the first Cannonau from the south-Sardinia to be awarded with the Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso.

2015
First Tre Bicchieri award for StellatoFirst Tre Bicchieri award for Stellato, first Vermentino produced in south-Sardinia to be awarded from Gambero Rosso… still the only one.

2017
Massimiliano Pala, Mario’s youngest son joined his fatherMassimiliano Pala, Mario’s youngest son joined his father after his studies.

2020
70th harvestHarvest and vintage number seventy.

2024
Lia Tolaini-Banville Becomes the Owner of PalaUnder Lia's ownership, Pala's legacy of excellence will continue, with significant investments planned to further elevate the quality and reach of its wines.
